Yosef Dov Soloveitchik was born in 1820 in Nesvizh, Minsk Voblast, Belarus and died in 1892 in Brest-Litovsk, Hrodna Voblast, Belarus. He was the author of Beis Halevi, by which name he is better known among Talmudic scholars and was the great-grandson of Rabbi Chaim Volozhin. In his youth, Rabbi Yosef Dov used to live in Brod and later moved to Slutsk, the place where he became Rabbi in 1865. Later in 1877 he moved to Brisk and became Rabbi over there, until his death. In 1854 he was Rosh Yeshiva of the Volozhin yeshiva for ten years. Rabbi Dov was know as one of the great minds in his time.
